Parker Van Buren and Max Roquet Earn MIVA Player of the Week Honors

The second week of Players of the Week for the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association were announced on Tuesday (Jan. 17). Loyola Chicago’s Parker Van Buren was named the Offensive Player of the Week while Lewis’ Max Roquet was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.

Van Buren picked up where he left off after his MIVA Newcomer of the Year award in 2022. In Loyola’s first three matches of 2023, he terminated 27 kills with a scorching .431 hitting percentage. He hit .400 or better in all three matches. He led the Ramblers to three wins over Missouri S&T, King and UC San Diego. The sophomore pin hitter averaged 3.86 kills per set while chipping in nine aces, including a career-high five against King. This is Van Buren’s sixth MIVA Offensive Player of the Week award.

Roquet led the Flyers to a pair of wins over King and UC San Diego as well, fueled by both offense and defense. He is being recognized for his defense this week, however, as he averaged 2.43 digs and 0.86 blocks per set. He had seven digs and a solo block against King, then 10 digs and five blocks against UC San Diego. This is Roquet’s first Player of the Week award.
