Loyola Chicago and Purdue Fort Wayne went 2-0 in the opening week of MIVA play, leading to the conference selecting Rambler Parker Van Buren as the Offensive Player of the Week and Mastodon Troy Gooch as the Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday (Feb. 15).
Van Buren picked up his second Offensive Player of the Week award, leading Loyola Chicago to a pair of wins over Quincy and Lindenwood. The redshirt-freshman had 36 kills in seven sets for 5.14 per set, while hitting a very efficient .537. He had 16 kills against Quincy and 20 against Lindenwood. He added an ace against Quincy.
En route to his second Defensive Player of the Week award, Gooch led the Mastodons to a pair of wins over Lindenwood and Quincy. Gooch finished the week with 19 digs in seven sets for a 2.71 per set average. He had 11 in a three-set match against Quincy. Gooch's defense led to the Mastodon offense hitting over .300 in both matches. This is Gooch's third Player of the Week award of his career.
