Loyola Chicago and Ball State Earn Player of the Week Awards

The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced on Tuesday (Feb. 3) that Loyola Chicago’s Josh Schellinger and Ball State’s Lucas Machado were selected as the MIVA Players of the Week.

Schellinger led Loyola to a 2-0 week with wins over Manhattan and UC San Diego. The former Triton registered 13 kills against the Jaspers before 19 against his former team. He was very efficient in both matches, hitting .591 against Manhattan and .387 against No. 11 UC San Diego. For the week, he averaged 4.57 kills per set while hitting .472. This is Schellinger’s first Player of the Week award as a member of the MIVA.

Machado also led Ball State to a 2-0 week with wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and George Mason. The junior setter totaled nine digs and six blocks in six sets of action, as the Cardinals swept both foes. Machado had five digs and three blocks against UMES and four digs and three blocks at George Mason. This is Machado’s first Player of the Week award of his career.
