Solomon and Tripp Collect Second Player of the Week Awards

The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Players of the Week led their respective teams to 2-0 weeks. Zach Solomon of Lindenwood collected the MIVA Offensive Player of the Week award and McKendree’s Tyler Tripp earned the Defensive Player of the Week award, the MIVA announced on Tuesday (Jan. 20).

Solomon led Lindenwood to wins over No. 12 CSUN and Menlo. The senior setter dished out 47 assists in a four-set win over the Matadors, then had 23 in a sweep the following night against the Oaks, averaging 10.0 per set. He had also had seven combined aces (1.00 per set) and four kills (0.57 per set). Behind his setting, the Lions hit .347 against CSUN and .400 against Menlo. This is Solomon’s third Player of the Week award, second on the offensive side.

Tripp helped McKendree to wins against Charleston and Mount Olive. The graduate student outside hitter had 15 digs and six blocks in seven sets of action, averaging 2.14 digs and 0.86 blocks per set for the week. He had seven digs and five blocks against the now-ranked Golden Eagles, holding them to .175 hitting. A day later, he eight digs and a block to limit Mount Olive to just .080 hitting.
