The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced its seventh duo of Player of the Week award winners on Tuesday (Feb. 18). Ohio State’s Shane Wetzel and McKendree’s Yadiel Diaz were selected as the MIVA’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

Wetzel used a very efficient week to lead Ohio State to a 2-0 record with wins at Purdue Fort Wayne and against Lindenwood. The junior pin had 13 kills in a three-set win on the Mastodons’ home floor while hitting a great .588. Five days later, Wetzel registered 15 kills in four sets at Lindenwood, cooling off a bit to a still solid .387 hitting percentage. He added a total of six aces in the seven sets of action. For the week, Wetzel averaged 4.00 kills per set while hitting .458 to earn his second Player of the Week award.

Diaz also helped McKendree to a 2-0 week, picking up a pair of five-set victories. After a nine-dig performance at Lindenwood, the junior libero dug out 18 attacks against Loyola to hand the Ramblers their first loss of the season. Diaz had just one reception error while averaging 2.70 digs per set to earn his first Player of the Week award.
