Ohio State's Nicolas Szerszen has been named the Offensive Player of the Week and McKendree's Nolan Rueter has been named the Defensive Player of the Week, the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced on Tuesday (March 27).
Szerszen helped Ohio State to a sweep of Quincy and a five-set victory over Lindenwood. On the week, Szerszen hit .431 (28-6-51) with 3.50 kills per set. He also added nine aces (1.13 per set). He came up two blocks short of a triple-double at Lindenwood, racking up 17 kills, 10 digs, eight blocks and six service aces. In total, he was responsible for 28.0 points in the Ohio State five-set victory. He opened the week by attacking .667 with 11 kills in a win at Quincy.
Rueter recorded 29 digs (2.42 per set) and seven blocks (0.58 per set) last week. The senior outside hitter helped the Bearcats win a league match over Quincy and split a non-league series with Princeton. Rueter handled 55-of-56 (98.2 percent) serve receptions successfully. In the sweep of Quincy, he recorded six digs and a solo block. On March 22 vs. Princeton he notched nine digs and three blocks. The next night, a 3-1 win for the Bearcats, he recorded 14 digs and three blocks.
