MIVA Tournament Semifinals Set

The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament semifinals are set after Ball State, Loyola Chicago, McKendree and Lewis won their opening round matchups.

No. 1 Ball State beat No. 8 Northern Kentucky 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-15) in Muncie, Indiana. MIVA Player of the Year Patrick Rogers led the Cardinals with 12 kills on a .550 hitting percentage and three aces. The Cardinals hit .552 as a team thanks to First Team All-MIVA setter Lucas Machado (23 assists) and Griffin Satterfield (13 assists). Juanmarco Diaz had a team-high 11 kills for Northern Kentucky.

No. 2 Loyola Chicago topped No. 7 Purdue Fort Wayne 3-1 (27-25, 25-20, 26-28, 25-16) in Chicago. The Ramblers had four hitters with 12 or more kills: Josh Schellinger, Bryce Robbins, Daniel Fabikovic and Aidan Klein. Second Team All-MIVA setter Josh Schellinger dished out 52 assists to lead Loyola Chicago to a .381 hitting percentage. First Team selection Logan Muir led the Mastodons with 18 kills and Brody McAfee pitched in 14.

No. 6 Lewis upset No. 3 Lindenwood 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-22) in St. Charles, Missouri. The Flyers' offense rolled, finishing the match with a .392 hitting percentage. All-MIVA Second Teamer Daniel Haber had 11 kills to lead Lewis. First Team honoree Zach Solomon dished out 24 assists for Lindenwood.

No. 4 McKendree held off an upset bid from No. 5 Ohio State 3-2 (25-18, 25-18, 21-25, 22-25, 15-12) in Lebanon, Illinois. All-MIVA Second Team selection Sam Hoskin led McKendree with 13 kills, while Tyler Tripp and fellow Second Teamer Bryce Wetjen pitched in 12 each. Ohio State got 19 kills out of First Team All-MIVA honoree Shane Wetzel.

No. 1 Ball State will host No. 4 McKendree and No. 2 Loyola Chicago will host No. 6 Lewis on Wednesday, April 22.
