CHICAGO - The Loyola Chicago men's volleyball team claimed the 2025 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association championship on Saturday (April 26).
The Ramblers hoisted the Don Shondell MIVA Tournament Trophy after dismantling Ohio State 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-21).
The Ramblers were paced by 15 kills by Parker Van Buren, who was selected as the Most Valuable Player for the 2025 MIVA All-Tournament Team. Van Buren hit .400 against the Buckeyes, finishing the tournament with a 5.22 kills per set clip and a .409 hitting percentage. Fellow All-Tournament selection Ryan McElligott dished out 11.56 assists per set and led Loyola to a team hitting percentage of .418 for the tournament. Daniel Fabikovic was the third Rambler selected for the team, finishing with 2.67 kills and 1.44 digs per set in three matches.
Ohio State's Shane Wetzel and Stanislaw Chacinski were also named to the All-Tournament team, recording 3.40 and 3.10 kills per set, respectively.
Loyola Chicago came out firing on all cylinders offensively and defensively on Saturday. The Ramblers hit .455 while holding Ohio State to -.077 in the first set. Improbably, the LUC offense improved even more in sets two and three, as the Ramblers hit .500 the rest of the way.
The Ramblers trailed on just four occasions in the entire match, all before the 5-5 mark in the third set.
This is Loyola Chicago's first MIVA Tournament title since 2015 and fourth all-time.
