Van Buren and Paula Earn Another Set of Weekly Awards

Parker Van Buren and Nico Paula repeated as the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Players of the Week on Tuesday (Feb. 11), the MIVA announced.

For the third time this season, Van Buren picked up the Offensive Player of the Week award. The senior pin hitter was red-hot this week, finishing the week with 5.43 kills per set while hitting an astounding .562. He had just two errors in a pair of wins over McKendree and Ohio State. Van Buren had 18 kills in three sets against the Bearcats and 20 kills two days later on the road against the Buckeyes. He added an ace at OSU. Van Buren’s spectacular offensive performance set him up for his 14th Offensive Player of the Week award of his career.

Paula helped Lewis to a 1-1 week, beating Lindenwood before falling to McKendree. The junior libero had 13 digs against the Lions and followed it up with a 14-dig effort against the Bearcats. He did not have any reception errors while averaging 3.38 digs per set. This is Paula’s sixth Defensive Player of the Week award in his career and second this season.
