Loyola Chicago’s Parker Van Buren and Lewis’ Nico Paula were selected as the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association’s Players of the Week on Tuesday (Jan. 21).
Van Buren helped Loyola to a 2-0 week with wins over Saint Francis and Rockhurst. The senior pin hitter averaged 4.14 kills per set, hit .519 and added an ace per set. He had 11 kills against SFU and 18 against Rockhurst. The 2024 Player of the Year picked up his 12th Offensive Player of the Week award after his first this season.
In his fifth Defensive Player of the Week award, Paula helped Lewis to a 1-1 week with a win over Rockhurst. The junior libero had 12 digs against the Hawks then followed it up with 12 more in four sets against Long Beach. For the week, Paula averaged 3.43 digs per set.
