The opening round of the 2024 MIVA Tournament saw the four highest seeds advance to the semifinal on Saturday (April 13).
The semifinal will be played on Thursday (April 18) in Muncie, Indiana.
No. 1 Ball State 3, No. 8 Queens 0
No. 1 Ball State swept No. 8 Queens 25-22, 25-18, 25-18 while hitting .355. Trevor Phillips led the way with 11 kills on 16 attempts with seven digs, while All-MIVA First Team honoree Tinaishe Ndavazocheva had 10 kills. The Cardinals hit over .400 in set two.
Queens had 12 kills come from Jack Brinkman.
No. 2 Loyola Chicago 3, No. 7 McKendree 0
MIVA Player of the Year Parker Van Buren led No. 2 Loyola Chicago to a 25-18, 25-18, 25-16 win over No. 7 McKendree. Van Buren registered 18 of the team's 39 kills on 24 attempts for a hyper efficient .708 hitting rate. Newcomer of the Year Daniel Fabikovic added eight kills on a .316 percentage. All-MIVA Second Teamer Dan Mangun dished out 33 assists for the team's .394 hitting percentage.
Bryce Wetjen had nine kills to lead McKendree.
No. 3 Ohio State 3, No. 6 Lewis 1
In the only match of the night to go to four sets, No. 3 Ohio State beat No. 6 Lewis 26-24, 25-27, 25-21, 25-20. All-MIVA honorees Jacob Pasteur and Shane Wetzel led the way with 17 and 16 kills, respectively. All-MIVA setter Michael Wright dished out 49 assists to help OSU hit .353.
Lewis was led by All-MIVA First Team selection Max Roquet, who finished with 17 kills on an efficient .306 percentage.
No. 4 Lindenwood 3, No. 5 Purdue Fort Wayne 0
No. 4 Lindenwood won its seventh match in row behind double-digit kills from a trio of All-MIVA performers to beat No. 5 Purdue Fort Wayne 25-22, 25-15, 25-17. The Lions were red-hot offensively, hitting .540 as a team against the visiting Mastodons. All-MIVA Second Teamer Connor Sheehan dished out 34 assists, finding fellow All-MIVA players Ian Schuller (14), AJ Lewis (10) and Clay Wieter (10) for double-digit kills.
Purdue Fort Wayne got 12 kills out of All-MIVA First Team honoree Mark Frazier.
