Van Buren, Fabikovic and Cruz Headline All-MIVA Awards

The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced the 2024 All-MIVA Awards on Thursday (April 11). Loyola Chicago's Parker Van Buren was selected as the MIVA Player of the Year and Daniel Fabikovic was named the MIVA Newcomer of the Year, and Ball State head coach Donan Cruz was named the MIVA Coach of the Year.

Van Buren was second in the MIVA with 4.11 kills per set in 2024 on an extremely efficient .352. That mark was good for third in the MIVA. The 2023 Second Team All-American was the MIVA's Newcomer of the Year in 2022. Van Buren led the Ramblers to a second-place finish in the regular season. He is the first Rambler to be the MIVA Player of the Year since 2015. This is the sixth time a Loyola player has been Player of the Year.

Fabikovic was second on Loyola's team with 259 kills in 2024, averaging 3.47 per set. The freshman from Czech Republic was also very efficient offensively, recording a .345 hitting percentage. Fabikovic is the ninth Loyola player to earn the Newcomer of the Year award and first since Van Buren in 2022.

Cruz led Ball State to a 20-9 record in 2024, including a 13-3 mark in the MIVA. Under Cruz' leadership, the Cardinals won the regular season championship, their third regular season title in his three years in Muncie. BSU won four of its last five matches in order to clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MIVA Tournament. This is the second time Cruz has been named MIVA Coach of the Year and the 12th time a Ball State coach has won the award.

The All-MIVA Teams had eight of the nine MIVA teams represented. Loyola Chicago, Lindenwood, McKendree and Ohio State led the way with four honorees each. Ball State had three and Purdue Fort Wayne and Lewis each had two. Quincy rounded out the teams with one honoree.
