The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced on Tuesday (Feb. 13) that McKendree swept the sixth set of Player of the Week awards. Tyler Poulsen was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week and Kevin Schuele earned Defensive Player of the Week.
Poulsen led McKendree to two 3-0 MIVA wins last week over Quincy and Ball State. The redshirt-senior dished out a MIVA-best 13.67 assists per set, leading the Bearcats to a .290 hitting percentage. McKendree hit .469 at Quincy. Poulsen had 45 assists on the 48 kills against the Hawks then followed it up with 37 the next night. This is Poulsen’s first career Offensive Player of the Week award, second overall.
Schuele was a threat offensively and defensively, but was awarded this week for his defensive efforts in the two MIVA wins. He helped hold both Quincy and Ball State under .200 hitting by averaging 3.2 digs per set, also a MIVA-best this week. He also had no errors on 30 receptions. The junior pin had nine digs at Quincy and 10 against Ball State. This is Schuele’s first Defensive Player of the Week honor and second overall in his career.
