MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ohio State men’s volleyball program won its 18th MIVA Tournament Championship on Saturday night (April 22), beating Ball State 3-1 (27-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-19) in Worthen Arena.
The Buckeyes will head to Fairfax, Virginia to play in the NC Men’s Volleyball Championship (May 4-6).
Ohio State (22-9) setter Michael Wright was named the MIVA Tournament MVP. He dished out 147 assists (13.36 per set), leading Ohio State to a .409 hitting percentage for the tournament. This was capped off with a 54-assist performance against the Cardinals (20-9) in the MIVA Championship match. He added two kills, three aces, nine digs and two blocks on Saturday.
Jacob Pasteur was the Buckeyes’ leading kill-earner, picking up 19 on the biggest stage of his career. MIVA Newcomer of the Year Shane Wetzel pitched in 16 kills with a .333 hitting percentage.
Ball State’s Kaleb Jenness had 16 kills while hitting .400 and dug out seven Buckeye attacks. Tinaishe Nadavazocheva had 15 kills and a pair of aces. Setter David Flores dished out 37 assists and had nine digs.
Ohio State’s Pasteur and Wetzel were also named to the All-Tournament Team. Ball State’s Jenness and Ndavazocheva were the Cardinals’ representatives on the All-Tournament Team. Lewis’ Michael Sack and McKendree’s Kyle Wilson also earned places on the team.
