Jon Diedrich and Dominik Wagiel Earn MIVA Player of the Week Awards

Purdue Fort Wayne and Quincy collected the third MIVA Player of the Week honors. Mastodon Jon Diedrich was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week and Hawk Dominik Wagiel earned the Defensive Player of the Week award.

Diedrich pushed the Mastodons to a 2-0 week behind the best offensive performance in the MIVA. In a pair of 3-0 sweeps over Missouri S&T and Harvard, the senior pin hitter averaged a league-best 5.00 kills per set with a scorching .510 hitting percentage. He also had an ace in each match. Diedrich had 20 kills in the Mastodons’ win over Harvard. This is Diedrich’s fourth MIVA Player of the Week award.

Wagiel helped Quincy pick up its first win of the season this week, racking up 26 digs in 14 sets of action. Quincy topped Limestone in five sets, in which Wagiel had nine digs. Later the same day, he dug out 13 attacks at King in four sets. The sophomore libero finished the week with a league-high 1.86 digs per set in twice as many sets as the next-best. This is Wagiel’s first MIVA Player of the Week award.
