The semifinal rounds of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament are set.
No. 1 Ball State will host No. 4 Lewis and No. 2 Loyola Chicago will host No. 6 Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday (April 20).
No. 1 Ball State advanced to the semifinal after a 3-0 win over Quincy in the opening round. MIVA Player of the Year Kaleb Jenness had a match-high 16 kills with a .625 hitting percentage. All-MIVA First Teamer Angelos Mandilaris pitched in 10 kills on .412 hitting. Second-Teamer Felix Egharevba had six blocks to help hold Quincy to .076 hitting for the match. Quincy had four attackers with a team-high four kills.
No. 2 Loyola Chicago was led by MIVA Newcomer of the Year Parker Van Buren, who had 15 kills with a .433 attack percentage to lead the Ramblers past No. 7 Lindenwood 3-0. All-MIVA pin hitter Henry Payne had 10 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. All-MIVA setter Garrett Zolg had 39 assists in three sets. Lindenwood got 16 kills from AJ Lewis and 10 from Diego Negron, both All-MIVA selections.
No. 4 Lewis defeated No. 5 Ohio State 3-2 after falling behind 2-0 at home. The Flyers had three attackers with double-digit kills: John Davis, Christian Prayer and Max Roquet. All-MIVA performer Kevin Kauling dished out 50 assists in the five-set match. Prayer (12) and Jason Gibbs (10) had double-digit digs. Ohio State got 23 kills from a pair of All-MIVA players: Jacob Pasteur and Samuel Clark.
No. 6 Purdue Fort Wayne pulled off the upset of No. 3 McKendree 3-1 behind 18 kills from both Vicente Ibarra and All-MIVA First Team selection Jon Diedrich. Zach Solomon dished out 45 assists in the four-set match while also digging out 11 McKendree attacks. Kade Bontrager had a match-high 19 digs. McKendree had 20 kills from its pair of All-MIVA honorees Patrick Ross and Ethan Carroll.
