The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced its first Players of the Week of 2022 on Tuesday (Jan. 11). Martin Lallemand of Ohio State was picked as the Offensive Player of the Week and Purdue Fort Wayne's Troy Gooch earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Lallemand led Ohio State to a 2-0 week with a pair of wins over former MIVA member Central State in its first matches after reinstating the men's volleyball program. The outside hitter from Orp Le Grand, Belgium had 15 kills on 28 attempts over two matches with an average of 2.50 kills per set. The senior finished the week hitting .357, spurred by a .438 hitting percentage in Saturday's match against the Marauders. This is Lallemand's first offensive weekly honor, second overall.
Purdue Fort Wayne went 1-1 under Gooch's defensive direction, picking up a win at King. For the week, Gooch averaged 1.83 digs per set from the libero spot. He led the Mastodons to a team hitting percentage of .403 against King. In Purdue Fort Wayne's loss at Lincoln Memorial, the senior had four digs, totaling 11 for the week. This is Gooch's second Defensive Player of the Week honor.
