The McKendree University men's volleyball team beat Quincy University, 3-1 on Thursday to record a perfect 2-0 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) record for the week. The Bearcats are now 6-5 overall and 3-1 in MIVA competition.

McKendree opened the match flat on its feet, falling behind the Hawks who eventually took the set one 25-23. The second set got off to the same start and the Bearcats found themselves in a six-point deficit but a spark ignited in the team and they managed another remarkable comeback this week as they claimed the second set, 26-24. The momentum and skilled play carried into the third and fourth sets for McKendree as they beat Quincy, 25-18 and 27-25 to collect the 3-1 win.

Sophomore middle blocker Wyatt Dimke (Ham Lake, MN/Blaine) managed a .684 hitting percentage leading the offense with 14 kills on 19 total attempts for the Bearcats. Junior middle blocker Lucas Galifos (Mokena,IL/Lincoln Way East) was next with 12 recorded kills and a .450 hitting percentage. Junior opposite Zach Schnittker (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) also had an impressive offensive match, tallying nine kills. There to set up McKendree was freshman setter Ryan Serrano (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek) with 42 total assists.

Freshman libero Francisco Comas (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley High School) shattered his personal best record by tallying 22 total digs in the match to lead the McKendree defense. Serrano was next with 10 total digs. At the net for the Bearcats' defense, two people tallied three block assists a piece while four others recorded two block assists each. Schnittker and Dimke both had three then, Serrano, Galifos, freshman middle blocker Tommy McGrath (Paradise Valley, AZ/Brophy College Prep), and senior outside hitter Will Frank (Moro, IL/Edwardsville) each had two.

The Bearcats will resume competition next week with a match against Loyola University Chicago on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at home in the Statham Sports Center.
