In the final weekly awards of the 2018 season, Lewis' Ryan Coenen has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Offensive Player of the Week and Ball State's Matt Walsh has been named the MIVA Defensive Player of the Week.
Coenen led a Flyer offense that averaged over 13 kills and notched a hitting percentage of .462 in wins over Quincy and Lindenwood. Coenen averaged 4.00 kills per set with a hitting percentage of .550. His .630 hitting percentage against Lindenwood was the third time this season he's hit over .600 in a match. Two days earlier he had seven kills in a sweep at Quincy. He totaled an ace in each contest.
Walsh averaged 1.88 blocks per set in wins over McKendree and Ohio State last weekend. He helped Ball State limit McKendree to a .012 hitting percentage in the sweep on Friday thanks to six blocks (2.00 per set). The next day the Cardinals lost the first two sets to Ohio State before rallying for the win on Walsh's Senior Night. Walsh totaled nine blocks against the Buckeyes. He helped the Cardinals limit Ohio State to a .200, .100 and .190 attack percentage, respectively, in the final sets. The two wins clinched the No. 3 seed for the Cardinals in the MIVA Tournament.
