ST. CHARLES, Mo. - - The Ball State men's volleyball team ended the 2012 regular season with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-22) non-conference loss at Lindenwood's Hyland Arena Saturday evening.
The Cardinals (13-11), who played much of the match without its regular starters in preparation for next weekend's Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament, were led offensively by junior 's (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Ignatius) eight kills.
Freshman outside attacker (Grand Rapids, Mich./Home Schooled) added six kills, while freshman middle attacker (Collingswood, N.J./Collingswood) scored four kills and a team-high four total blocks.
Lindenwood's (18-13) Jack Mitchell led all players with 14 kills, while Tim Schmidt tallied a match-best 12 digs.
Overall, the Lions held a .304 (43-15-92) to .111 (30-20-90) hitting advantage in the contest, while out-blocking Ball State 15.0-5.0. Lindenwood also held a 35-25 edge in team digs.
The Ball State men's volleyball team will now turn its attention to the post season, as it travels to Grand Canyon Saturday for the first round of the 2012 MIVA Tournament at a time yet to be determined.
BSU, GCU and IPFW all finished in a tied for the fourth seed with identical 5-7 MIVA record. The 'Lopes earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament, and final hosting slot, by virtue of a 3-1 record in matches played among the three teams. The Cardinals had a 2-2 record in the four matches to earn the No. 5 seed, while IPFW went 1-3 to capture the No. 6 slot.
