
After battling #15 ranked Loyola University early in its match
on Friday night the Quincy University men's volleyball team faded
in a 3-0 loss. The Hawks fell 25-21, 25-14 and 25-17 as they
dropped their second consecutive match.
Quincy fell behind 17-8 in the opening set before making a late
push against the Ramblers. Trailing 20-13 the Hawks scored three
straight points including a kill by Brian
Peth and service ace from Ryan
Lehmann. A kill by Loyola stopped the Hawks' run but
kills from Joe
Ascher and Steven
Battaglia brough the Hawks back into the game at 22-19.
However that would be the closest Quincy could get as Loyola
traded points with Quincy down the stretch.
Quincy was tied with Lewis 4-4 in the second set when Loyola rolled
off six straight points to take control Quincy finished with just
five kills in the set while committing nine errors and hitting
-.154 as a team. Loyola meanwhile had a match low three errors in
the set and hit .353 as a team.
Quincy was down just 12-9 in the third set but Loyola quickly
opened up a 20-14 lead. Quincy finished the match with a team
hittting percentage of .042 with 23 kills and 20 errors in 71
attempts. Loyola hit .371 as a team with 37 kills and only 11
errors in 70 attempts.
Quincy was led by Steven
Battaglia with eight kills while Brian
Peth added six kills. Chris
Lynch finished with 20 assists while Ryan
Lehmann finished with five digs. Quincy falls to 13-6
overall and 0-5 in the MIVA. They return to action on Saturday as
they face Loyola once more in a MIVA match.
