No. 7 Lewis Men's Volleyball Keeps Rolling With Sweep Of Lindenwood
ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Fresh off a victory
over No. 8 Ohio State on Thursday, No. 7 Lewis men’s
volleyball showed no signs of a let down on Saturday (Feb. 25) at
Lindenwood. The Flyers took down the NCAA Division II bound Lions
3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-17) in a non-conference match.
The Flyers have won six consecutive matches and 11 of their last 12
contests.
Lewis never trailed after 7-7 in the first set, 4-4 in the second
and 1-1 in the third.
Junior Ian
Karbiener (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) hit .467 with eight
kills. He also added six digs and two blocks. Junior Jay
Petty (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) also
added eight kills. They were two of nine Flyers to notch a kill on
the night.
Freshman Eric
Butch (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) totaled 37 assists
and six digs. He ran a Lewis offense which out-hit Lindenwood .403
to .186.
“(Starting setter) BJ (Boldog) got sick about an hour before
the match and Eric stepped in and knocked it out of the
park,” Lewis head coach Dan
Friend said. “We hit .400 and that was because of
our passing and how Eric distributed the ball.”
Neither team recorded an ace in the contest. The last time Lewis
failed to record an ace in a match was the 2009 season opener
against Cal Baptist on Jan. 16. It’s the first time under
Dan
Friend Lewis participated in a match where neither team
recorded an ace.
Lindenwood falls to 9-6. Lewis improves to 12-3. The Flyers
continue non-conference play with a home contest against Mount
Olive on Tuesday. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
