Hawks Fall in MIVA Opener
The Quincy University men's volleyball team dropped its 2012
MIVA opener and second straight match in a 3-0 road loss to Ball
State University on Saturday night. The Hawks fell 25-18, 25-17 and
28-26.
Ball State jumped out to the lead in the opening set, taking a 7-3
lead early on. The Hawks fought back with a kill from Joseph Ascher
and an attack error by Ball State that made the score 7-5. Ball
State pulled away though and took a 19-13 lead to take control of
the set. The Hawks made a late push to close the score to 23-18 but
was unable to get any closer.
The Hawks held a 7-6 lead in the second set but Ball State recorded
kills on five of the next seven points to take a 12-8 lead. Ball
State would carry that momentum to a 17-11 lead before cruising to
a 25-17 win. Quincy hit just -.024 as a team in the set with 10
kills and 11 errors.
Quincy played dead even with Ball State in the third set with
neither team leading by more than two points. Quincy held a 25-24
lead after a kill by Ryan
Lehmann. The Hawks were unable to pick up the game
winning point though as Ball State evened the score and took the
lead with back to back kills. After Quincy tied the score up with a
kill by Ascher Ball State closed out the match with a kill and ace
for the win.
Quincy hit just .093 as a team in the match with 29 kills and 20
errors while Ball State hit .258 as a team with 40 kills and 17
errors. Ball State recorded 10.5 total team blocks while Quincy
finished with no service aces and 14 service errors.

Lehmann added seven kills. Andrew
Ouano recorded 23 assists while Joe
Ascher added seven digs. Quincy falls to 10-2 overall and
0-1 in the MIVA while Ball State improves to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in
the MIVA.
