CHICAGO - Another outstanding week on the hardwood, another award for junior Mike Bunting, as he was named the MIVA Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office this afternoon. Bunting is now a three-time winner of the conference accolade this season.
He earns the award after leading the Ramblers to a pair of conference road wins last week. Against then-No. 12 Lewis, Bunting posted 19 kills and four digs, guiding Loyola to a 3-2 victory over the Flyers. In a 3-1 win over the Mastodons, the junior powered 21 kills and tagged a .395 hitting percentage.
Bunting, a native of Wyomissing, Pa., has accumulated 345 kills, 72 digs and 19 service aces in 79 sets this season. He leads the conference in kills per set (4.37) and hitting percentage (.405).
IPFW senior outside hitter Darryl Shank was named the MIVA Defensive Player of the Week.
Loyola (17-5, 7-1) will take on No. 7 Ohio State (17-4, 10-0) this Friday, April 1 at Alumni Gym. Match time is set 7:00 p.m. CST.
