IPFW's Darryl Shank Takes MIVA Defensive Honors
Columbus, OH - In a change of pace for the
Mastodons' leading hitter, senior Darryl
Shank nabbed his second MIVA Player of the Week honor in
as many weeks, this time for his defensive prowess.
The weekly nod is the fourth of the 2011 season, sixth of his
career and first on the defensive side of action.
In addition to his weekly duties leading the IPFW attack with
a combined 30 kills and .375 attack percentage on the weekend,
the 6-5 senior posted nine seven digs and handled 13 serve
receptions without an error on Friday night against No. 11 Loyola
before closing out the weekend with a match-high nine digs and 35
service receptions Saturday in a three-set sweep of Carthage.
On the weekend, Shank handled 48 of 49 service receptions, amassing
a .980 mark in the category.
Saturday night's sweep of Carthage marked win number 500 in the
career of IPFW head coach Arnie
Ball.
The Mastodons return to action in search of win number 501 Friday,
as they host the Quincy Hawks. First serve in the match is slated
for 7 p.m. in the Hilliard Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne.
