Loyola's Mike Bunting Captures Sports Imports/AVCA and MIVA Player Of The Week Honors

CHICAGO - After leading Loyola to a 1-1 mark this past weekend in California, junior Mike Bunting (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week and MIVA Offensive Player of the Week, announced by both league offices today.

On March 9 against Cal State Northridge, Bunting posted his first double-double of the season with 19 kills and 11 digs. He also totaled two service aces and an assist in Loyola's 3-1 win. Two days later against then-No. 8 UCLA, the junior powered 24 kills and managed three blocks, while producing a .444 hitting percentage. The Ramblers came up short against the Bruins, however, falling in five sets.

Bunting, now a two-time winner of each award this season (Feb. 7), has totaled 290 kills, 61 digs, 28 blocks and 18 service aces in 2011. He's ranked third nationally with a .414 hitting percentage and sixth in kills per set with 4.39.

The Ramblers (13-5, 5-1) will return to Alumni Gym this weekend, when they host George Mason on Friday, March 18. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
