GCU Drops Match 0-3 to IPFW

The Grand Canyon University men’s volleyball team fell to Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne 0-3 tonight in Antelope Gymnasium.

IPFW had an impressive night hitting .413 as a team. With an offensive edge, the ‘Lopes were unable to pull out a win against the Mastodons. The first set was fight with three lead changes and 12 tie scores before IPFW pulled out a 25-23 win. The second was dominated by the Mastodons as they took the lead early, winning 25-12. Grand Canyon held tight to the third set, staying close behind but dropped the match in a 19-25 third set loss.

Freshman Ben Ponnet (Merchtem, Belgium, OLVC) was the only ‘Lope to hit double-digit kills with 10, seven of them in the first set. Ponnet also had two service aces and four digs.

Freshman Ben Hunt (Huntington Beach, CA , Servite) hit .462 for the night with seven kills and just one error. Hunt contributed three block assists.

Junior middle blocker Taylor Galliano (Norco, CA , Foothill , Irvine Valley College) had five total blocks for the night.

Grand Canyon will take on IPFW again on Saturday night at 6:00 pm in Antelope Gymnasium.
