Grand Canyon Sweeps Stevens 3-0

“Ben Ponnet and Jordon Tarantino provided balance on both sides of the court,” said head coach Jeremy Price.

Ponnet broke the 200 mark with 10 kills in tonight’s match; he now has 209 for the season.

Tarantino hit double-digit kills with 10 and recorded four service aces. His four aces tie him for fourth on the all-time records list for service aces in a single match.

Jensen made an impact in today’s game with six kills on nine attempts and no errors. He hit .667 for the night.

Sophomore libero Trent Bruns (Mission Viejo, CA , Mission Viejo) had 11 digs leading the defense. He has 193 this season and averaging 2.64 digs per set.

Jake Wekell (Tempe, AZ, Marcos de Niza) and Taylor Galliano (Norco, CA , Foothill , Irvine Valley College) also contributed two service aces and Ponnet contributed one. This gave GCU an impressive nine service aces as a team for the match, one shy of putting them on the all-time records list.

“It was a nice team win…they really showed maturity and growth,” said Price.

This is GCU’s second consecutive win and hopes to continue the run tomorrow night against New York University at 7:00 pm EST.
