MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State men's volleyball redshirt freshman libero Tommy Rouse (Carmel, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week as announced today by the league office.
This is the first career MIVA weekly honor for Rouse and the first for the team this season. In Ball State's two matches last weekend, Rouse averaged 3.44 digs per set and had a .953 serve reception percentage handling 41 of 43 attempts.
In last Friday's match at George Mason, Rouse turned in the best performance of his young career with a career-high 18 digs in the four-set contest. In serve reception, Rouse handled 25 attempts without an error.
In Saturday's five-set victory at Sacred Heart, Rouse recorded a match-high 13 digs. He also posted an .889 (16-of-18) reception percentage against the Pioneers.
The 14th-ranked Ball State men's volleyball team returns to action this weekend when it hosts Pheiffer Friday and Limestone Saturday in a pair of 7:30 p.m. first serves. In addition, Mt. St. Joseph will battle Limestone Friday and Pheiffer Saturday in a pair of 5:30 p.m. starts at Worthen Arena.
