St. Charles, Mo.-- The Quincy University men's volleyball team was unable to hold on for a win Friday night as they fell on the road 3-1 to Lindenwood University.
Quincy led 24-20 in the first set and held serve at 24-21 but a service error gave the Lions the ball back and kept them alive. Three straight attack errors by Quincy evened the score up at 24-24 but a kill by Joe Ascher gave the serve back to the Hawks. However the Lions answered back with two straight kills and eventually won on back to back Quincy errors 29-27.
The Hawks did not let the poor ending to the first set stop them however as they stormed back for a 25-15 win in the second game. Quincy led by just three at 15-12 before scoring 10 of the next 13 points in the game. The Hawks trailed for the majority of the third set, including by as many as six points, before taking a 22-21 lead after back to back kills by Joe Sokol. But the Lions responded with three straight points to close the set out for a 25-23 win.
The momentum was firmly on Lindenwood's side and Quincy was unable to do much in the fourth set as they dropped it 25-17 to lose the match. Quincy hit .203 as a team with 52 kills while Lindenwood hit .184 with 46 kills. However the Hawks committed 14 service errors in the match.
Quincy was led by Sokol's 14 kill performance while Ryan Lehmann added 11 kills and 12 digs. Andrew Ouanu was effective running the offense with 46 assists while Tanner Wright finished with 12 digs. Quincy is now 1-1 on the season and returns to action on Saturday with a pair of matches against Park University on the road.
