Columbus, Ohio - The Ohio State (22-7) men's volleyball team has been seeded fourth in the 2010 National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship and will face top seeded and host Stanford (22-6) in the semifinals at 11 p.m. ET Thursday, May 6 in Stanford California at Maples Pavilion. The match will be carried live by ESPNU. This is Ohio State's 17th appearance in the championship and the third consecutive year that the Buckeyes have received the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association automatic bid. Stanford earned the automatic bid from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
In the first semifinal at 9 p.m. ET, No. 2 seed Cal State Northridge (23-9) faces No. 3 seed Penn State (23-7). The match will be carried live by ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN360.com. Cal State Northridge received the at-large bid to the championship while Penn State earned the automatic bid from the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association.
The national championship match will be broadcast live on Saturday, May 8 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN360.com simulcast.
Ohio State, the regular season MIVA champion, earned the No. 1 seed in the MIVA Tournament and received a quarterfinal bye. The Buckeyes defeated Ball State 3-1 (30-24, 27-30, 30-28, 30-27) last Wednesday in the tournament semifinals and defeated Loyola-Chicago, 3-2 (30-28, 25-30, 26-30, 30-20, 15-11) Saturday in the championship match to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The Buckeyes have won 12 consecutive matches going into the NCAA championship semifinals.
