Loyola's Dewaele Named MIVA Offensive Player Of The Week
CHICAGO (April 5, 2010) – Loyola University Chicago sophomore Domenic Dewaele (Hamilton, Ontario/Bishop Ryan) has been named Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced this afternoon (April 5). Dewaele led the 12th-ranked Ramblers to back-to-back wins over MIVA newcomer Grand Canyon last week to earn his first weekly honor.
Dewaele posted 24 kills, five digs and a .395 hitting percentage to lead the Ramblers to a 3-1 win over Grand Canyon on Thursday (April 1). He followed with 19 kills, a career-high seven digs and a .433 hitting percentage in the Ramblers’ 3-0 win over the Antelopes on Friday (April 2) to extend his double-digit kill streak to seven matches. For the week, Dewaele averaged 6.14 kills per set, along with a .411 hitting percentage.
Loyola has received five of the league’s 12 offensive weekly awards this season, with sophomore Mike Bunting earning the first two of the season and senior Kris Berzins also taking home two of his own.
Dewaele and the Ramblers travel to Ohio State this Friday (April 9) to take on the 13th-ranked Buckeyes in a crucial conference match. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
