Quincy heats up too late, swept by Ohio State

(Quincy, Ill.) The Quincy University men's volleyball team saved their best for last but it was not enough and too late as they were swept at home by Ohio State University 3-0 falling 30-21, 30-18 and 30-27.

Ohio State took a commanding 5-1 lead to start the first game but Quincy was able to make a run late and close the score to 21-19 after a Buckeye service error. The Hawks could not continue the momentum however as Ohio State scored nine of the next 11 points in the set to win 30-21.

Quincy fell behind early again in game two as Ohio State stormed to a 10-3 lead and were never able to recover. After hitting just .120 in the first two games the Hawks offense finally heated up in the third set. Quincy had just 18 total kills in the first two sets but finished game three with 16 kills and hitting .308 as a team. The Hawks offense started strong, recording six kills and just one error in their first eight points as they took an 8-5 lead.

However Ohio State took a 10-9 lead and the two teams battled back and forth before Ohio State rolled off four straight points to take a 17-13 lead. The Hawks fought their way back, closing to within one point on three different occasions including at 27-26 after a solo block by Dan Dresen. However the Hawks again could not keep the momentum as they committed a service error to get serve back and finish Quincy off for the win.

Quincy hit .202 as a team in the match with 34 kills and 16 errors in 89 attempts while Ohio State hit .378 as a team with 52 kills and 15 errors in 98 attempts.
