Quincy snaps losing streak with sweep of Fontbonne

(St. Louis, Mo.) The Quincy University men's volleyball team snapped a three match losing streak with a 3-0 sweep on the road over Fontbonne University winning 30-19, 30-20 and 30-27.

Quincy cruised in the match's first two sets before having to put together a rally in the third set. Quincy hit .189 in the first set, with 16 kills and nine errors, as they took control early jumping out to a 15-5 lead. The Hawks offense was clicking in the second set with 18 kills and just four errors, hitting at a .438 clip.

However the Hawks offense disappeared at the start of the third set as Fontbonne, playing on Senior night, jumped out to an 8-1 lead. The Hawks eventually battled back and with Kyle Homeyer serving two straight points tied the game up at 17-17. Quincy did not get their first lead of the set until they took a 23-22 lead after an attack error by Fontbonne. With the score tied at 26-26, Quincy rolled off three straight points with a pair of kills by Kyle Volstad and an attack error by Fontbonne. The Hawks concluded the sweep when Joseph Ascher ripped a kill down the left line for the win.

Quincy hit .222 as a team in the match while Fontbonne hit just .010. The Hawks added nine total team blocks and six service aces. Joseph Ascher and Kyle Volstad led Quincy with 12 kills each while Volstad hit .688 in the match with just one error. Dan Dresen added 40 assists and Tanner Wright finished with 17 digs.
