Quincy falls to Loyola in MIVA contest
(Chicago, Ill.) The Quincy University men's volleyball team dropped their second consecutive match, falling to Loyola University 3-0 in a MIVA contest in Chicago, Illinois. The Hawks fell by the scores of 30-22, 30-22 and 30-20.
Loyola took control of the match early in game one, jumping out to a 10-5 lead. The Hawks trailed 23-14 at one point before putting together three consecutive points. However the lead was too large as the Ramblers cruised to a 30-22 win. Quincy hit just .172 in the game with 12 kills and seven errors while Loyola hit .320 with 13 kills and five errors.
The two teams played even through the first portion of game two, with the score tied at 8-8 and Quincy down just 15-12. However Loyola scored six of the game's next eight points and pulled away from the Hawks. Loyola's offense hit a match high .462 with 17 kills while Quincy managed just 11 kills in the game. Game three saw Loyola hit .379 with 12 kills and just one attack error while Quincy finished with their strongest hitting performance of the night hitting .308 with 18 kills and six errors.
Quincy hit .253 as a team with 41 kills and 18 errors while Loyola hit .387 with 42 kills and 11 errors. Quincy also committed 19 service errors and finished without a service ace. Peter Coley led the way for Quincy with 10 kills while Dan Dresen added 32 assists. Quincy falls to 4-8 overall and 1-3 in the MIVA and returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they conclude their series against Loyola.
