(Quincy, Ill.) The Quincy University men's volleyball team picked up their 13th win of the season on Tuesday night and in doing so moved above .500 and have now won seven of their last nine matches.
Quincy held on for a 3-2 win over visiting Hannibal-LaGrange; winning 30-23, 30-24; 17-30, 25-30 and 15-10. The Hawks took the first two sets with relative ease, hitting .368 in the first game and .250 in the second game. However Hannibal-LaGrange opened up a 7-3 lead in the third game with Quincy appearing to right themselves and closing the score to 13-12. However the Hawks could not get the go ahead point as the Trojans scored 10 of the next 11 points and put the game away.
Quincy appeared headed to ended the match in four sets as they held a 15-11 lead but Hannibal-LaGrange rolled off seven straight points late to take a 28-23 lead before finishing Quincy off 30-25. Quincy finally got their offense going again in the fifth set as they hit a match high .438 with nine kills and just two errors on 16 attempts. The Hawks led 5-4 early on but scored five of the next six points to take control and closed out the match when Chris Zeidler and Peter Coley blocked a Trojan attempt.
Quincy hit .242 as a team with 73 kills and added 12 total team blocks. Coley led the way with 21 kills while Dan Dresen finished with 62 assists and Tanner Wright added 20 digs. This marks the latest in a season the Hawks have been above .500 since the 2003 season when they finished 17-12 overall.
