Quincy evens season record with pair of wins over Fontbonne

(Quincy, Ill.) The Quincy University men's volleyball team evened their season record at 12-12 with a pair of wins at home over Fontbonne University.

The Hawks picked up their 12th win of the season winning the second match of the night 3-0 by the scores of 30-15, 30-17 and 30-19 with one of their more impressive matches of the season. The Hawks hit a season high .450 as a team in the match with 45 kills and just nine errors.

The Hawks hit .524 in the first set and opened up a 20-8 lead. The Hawks continued their pressure in the second set, hitting .444 with a match high 19 kills and just three errors. The Hawks opened up a 10-4 lead in the third set but saw Fontbonne climb back to bring the score to 14-10. The Hawks got the momentum back when Larvell Stevens served the Hawks to two straight points. Stevens later added two block assists and recorded a kill in the team's final seven points to spark the Hawks to the win.

Peter Coley led the attack with 15 kills while Joseph Sokol added 10 kills and Dan Dresen finished with 40 assists. The Hawks finished the match with nine service aces, including four from Joseph Ascher, and 14 total team blocks.

The first match of the night saw Quincy win 30-27, 27-30, 30-25 and 30-20. Quincy hit .273 as a team in the match but committed 32 service errors to allow Fontbonne to stick around for most of the match. Pat Ryan and Levi Chavez each had 17 kills while Jeremiah Anderson added 13 kills and Kyle Homeyer finished with 10 kills. Rob Courtney led Quincy with 65 assists while Matt Bronson finished with 12 digs.
