Quincy momentum cut short, take two of three

(Quincy, Ill.) After winning the first two matches of the day and evening their record the Quincy University men's volleyball team had their momentum halted in a 3-1 loss to Missouri Baptist University in the day's final action.

Quincy took the first two matches of the day with ease, winning 3-0 over both Pfeiffer and Fontbonne. However the Hawks hitting never developed against Missouri Baptist, as they hit just .133 in the match while committing 20 service errors. Quincy took the first game of the match 30-27 but saw the Spartans rally for a 30-21, 30-20 and 30-19 win. Missouri Baptist hit .286 as a team in the match with 66 kills compared to just 41 for Quincy.

The Hawks started the day with a 30-24, 30-25 and 31-29 win over Pfeiffer. The Hawks hit .243 as a team in the match with 46 kills and recorded five service aces. James Wizniak led the Hawks with 12 kills, hitting .923, while Rob Courtney finished with 40 assists. Matt Bronson added seven digs for Quincy.

The Hawks took that momentum from the first match into their second one as they cruised to a 30-28, 30-24 and 30-20 win over Fontbonne. Despite hitting just .181 as a team Quincy benefited from eight service aces and 11.5 total team blocks. Pat Ryan led the charge with eight kills, hitting .727, while Levi Chavez added eight kills as well. Courtney again ran the offense finishing with 28 assists while Bronson recorded 10 digs. Quincy stands at 10-11 overall this season.
