Grand Canyon begins weekend with win over Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Grand Canyon (13-18) came back from a first-set loss to defeat host Lees-McRae 3-1 at Williams Gymnasium Friday. Grand Canyon lost the first set 25-30, then took control the rest of the way with set victories of 30-17, 30-22, 30-21.

Sophomore middle hitter Nick Jensen had 14 kills, a .619 hitting percentage and six total blocks, including two solos. Freshman outside hitter Tyler Capko had 13 kills and a .417 average. Sophomore Brock Hutchins and freshman Robbie Brannick (.381) each had 12 kills.

Freshman setter Brad Moore had 55 assists, eight digs and two block assists. Brannick and frosh Connor Dougherty each had four block assists. Dougherty also added eight kills. Freshman libero Trent Bruns had 20 digs.

GCU takes on King College (10 a.m.) and Lees-McRae (Noon) Saturday at Williams Gym.
